Gifted and Talented Education (GATE)
Grades 3-5
California GATE Overview
Chesterton Elementary has a GATE Cluster Program. Students in 2nd grade, or who are new to the district, or who haven't been previously tested, are given the CogAT test. The results of this test, along with a multi-criterion matrix, are used to identify students as GATE. The GATE Cluster Program supports both high-achieving and underachieving pupils, who are identified as gifted and talented. By state definition, gifted students are pupils who possess a capacity for excellence far beyond that of their chronological peers. Curriculum, instruction, and/or presentation, is differentiated in order to help GATE students realize their learning potential.
Chesterton Elementary offers the GATE Program in grades 3 - 5.
